They are virtual places where developers ask and answer questions, helping each other for free. To participate, first you need to subscribe to a forum (instructions below) so you start receiving messages and can also post messages. In general this is done by email but you can also do it all from the web (if you have a Yahoo! ID).
When you post a message to the forum via email or from the web site, the message is almost* instantly available at the web site and is also automatically sent to all the members of the forum who chose to receive messages by email. This way, members benefit from having the chance to get answers from many people and they can also learn by seeing others' questions and answers. From the group website members can change their preferences; you can receive messages from the group immediately when they are sent, as a daily digest or not at all.
*Usually messages are posted within a few seconds but sometimes they can take longer.
How much do they cost?NOTHING! This is a free service provided by ourselves and Latium Software via Yahoo! Groups. Yahoo! include a little text advert in every message but they don't spam. To use the group website you need to have a Yahoo! ID; you can get one for free by registering as a Yahoo! user. You don't need a Yahoo! ID if you only want to use the group via email but you will not have access to features such as the message archives or the Files area. Use of Yahoo! Groups is subject to their Terms of Service.
SubscribingTo subscribe to a forum follow the corresponding link below. You can subscribe from the web or by email. If you subscribe by email, your access will be limited to sending and receiving messages by email but you can link your membership to a Yahoo! ID later to gain access to the website features.
