Issue #55 of the Pascal Newsletter has been published. This issue has four
articles including using the Windows API to extract version information from an executable, converting BMP
to other formats in Delphi.NET, a class that helps when using temporary files and embedding files in Delphi
units without using resource technology. We'd like to thank all the authors who contributed articles or
prizes for this issue.
TconScreenSaveSettings can now provide a list of screen saver filenames
(from the Windows System folder) and read the name of a screen saver (as dislayed in the Display
Properties applet).
TconDesktop now provides more paths to special (shell) folders, handles dual
displays better, provides more current information about the desktop and has improved error messages.
A memory leak has also been fixed.
Read the log of the chat room during the live audio chat from 2nd June 2005 on
Delphi 2005 with Danny Thorpe, Allen Bauer, and Mark Edington. They discuss the updates to Delphi 2005.
Danny Thorpe is the chief scientist at Borland, and was part of the original
team that developed Delphi. Builder magazine caught up with Danny to talk about the move to .NET, Kylix,
and the future of Delphi.
Over the next 12 months, Borland plans to introduce two new JBuilder
products that address what it called the "evolving needs of enterprise Java developers."
Borland will roll out its first Java development tools based on Eclipse
within the next year, answering growing competition from open source products. A version of Borland's
core JBuilder suite, codenamed Peloton, is planned for the first half of 2006, Borland said Tuesday.
Peloton is part of roadmap that will see an updated version of JBuilder, with greater code sharing
capabilities, delivered later this year.
