Borland's chief executive has stressed his company's commitment to developers,
by promising to pass the soon-to-be divested tools business to a "caring" investor. Tod Nielsen told
EclipseCon attendees that Borland is screening companies who will invest in and drive the IDE business
forward, rather than looking for a "Lex Luthor" who will destroy products like Delphi and JBuilder.
IDC, an independent world-wide market research company, is conducting a
worldwide survey to get a developer's perspective on open source software in collaboration with several large
IT vendors, including Borland. We encourage your participation in this survey regardless of what role you
may play in the software development life cycle, and whether you are an individual contributor or a manager.
Join Borland for a discussion with a panel of luminaries from their development
and database community. The panel will discuss current and future opportunities of the development tools
and database products as part of a spun off entity (DevCo).
Borland has updated its Windows development environment, while stressing its
continued commitment to delivering updated IDEs for developers. The company has announced availability of
its C++ Builder 2006 rapid application development environment, part of the overall Borland Developer Studio
suite.
Borland insists it's "business as usual" for programmers using its tools,
as the company continues to hunt for an investor to turn its IDE operation into an independent business.
The JBuilder team can use your help in planning future product directions. This
is your chance to provide valuable input to the team on a variety of topics. The survey should take
approximately 10 minutes on average to complete. Your feedback will have a direct influence on future
versions of JBuilder.
Despite being targeted for divestiture by their owner, Borland's development
tools fared very well in a comparison of application development tools recently released by Evans Data.
