Irongut's Delphi Pages has now been online for 1 year. It's been a busy
year with the relaunch of the Pascal Newsletter and the start of the Mozilla-Delphi Project as well
as new articles and code. I hope you've enjoyed it as much as I have.
The Pascal Newsletter Issue #51 contains articles on ensuring only a
single instance of your application is run and the internals of Delphi's implementation of
Classes and Interfaces. As well as the usual links to Borland News, Delphi and Kylix components
and articles, etc.
An open letter has been sent to Borland by a group of Windows developers
who are concerned about the company's lack of updates for its C++Builder IDE. Borland has said that
an answer to the question of C++Builder's future will be given on or before the 15th December.
Borland today joined Microsoft and other industry leaders in announcing
support and future plans for Software Factories, a new industry approach to improve software
development. As part of Borland's support for Software Factories, the company also announced plans
to deliver the domain-specific modeling solution providing UML capabilities within the Microsoft
Visual Studio 2005 Team System.
Microsoft, IBM and Borland are upgrading their software and offering
users new workflow features, support for multiple languages and tools to manage the lifecycle of
in-house applications.
Officials at Borland gave developers a look at the visual design
component of its SDO, code-named Themis, called Together modeling. Appropriately named after the
Greek goddess of law and order, Themis is Borland's vision of how software in the ALM should be
ruled, focusing on examining, analyzing and communicating design implementations in software
applications.
Borland this week is breaking up its Together ControlCenter package for
UML modeling into separate products for developing, designing, and architecting applications. The
move is intended to align the Together platform with the company's SDO strategy of providing a
disciplined approach to development.
IBM unveiled new Rational developer tools and Borland rolled out the
new version of its Delphi Windows development tool. With these announcements, both are maneuvering
to infuse their platforms with business process automation commonly used in other areas of
enterprise operations like core product design and manufacturing.
Delphi, the grand-daddy of visual programming environments, has been
updated by Borland. Delphi 2005 works with both Win32 and .Net frameworks, and also supports
Microsoft's C# as well as the Delphi language itself.

Borland today announced Delphi 2005, previously codenamed Diamondback.

Management solutions.
Jeff Wilsbacher, a JBuilder QA engineer, provides a whirlwind tour of
the JBuilder 2005 IDE, showing many of the interface and productivity options. Flash
Kicking off its Software Delivery Optimization campaign, Borland announced
upgrades to its CaliberRM requirements management and StarTeam configuration management software at
its BorCon conference in San Jose in September. Also at the conference, the company demonstrated the
next version of its Delphi IDE for Windows application development.
